Monogramming

  Over Spring Break, I wanted to make a small gift for each of my friends at school.  It had to be something simple, but something new - something that I hadn't done before.  My mom suggested making pillows, but I had already done that too much.  So, I decided to make pillows, but monogram their first initial on the front of the pillow.  It was easy enough, and the results turned out pretty cool.  I used my mom's embroidery machine, which made the job very quick and easy.  I'd say the hardest part was picking out the perfect fabric for each person.

Ta-daa!!!

It's a Compostion Book Cover!  My mom and I just finished making it tonight.  Well, mostly my mom.  I have a very short attention span...

The cover has pockets for pencils, buisness cards, a page marker, and a big pocket on the front for paper, or pretty much anything else.  Since I don't use buisness cards yet, I can just use it for erasers.  Oh!  It also has a latch on the side to keep it shut.

Anyways.  I guess it's time to tell everybody that I never actually finished that messenger bag that I was talking about.  I didn't even start it.  I was looking at the pattern for the bag, and it said that it would be good to use canvas.  So while I was thinking it over, I decided that there would be a lot of heavy books to carry back and forth, so there was no way that my 100% cotton fabric would survive the first couple of months.  So I used it on my Compostion Book Cover.  I need to use up that 3 yards somehow! 

County Fair RESULTS

We went to the county fair yesterday!  It was really fun.  We saw a bluegrass band, and a Magic Show.  Then we went and saw all the animals.  There were little baby chicks for only $12.00!!!  And bunnies for only $30!  Of course, I wasn't allowed to get any...  We also worked in the Childrens' Barn, where we taught crafts and games to the kids.  But one of my favorite parts was seeing our results!!!

This is a pincushion I made.  They put it together wrong.  The little bag is supposed to be connected to the beige strap under the cushion.  The bag is for thread scraps, and the blue pockets for seam rippers, chalk, snippers, anything like that.

This is a sculpture I made of Albert Einstein for a school project.  I probably should've entered it in the recycled category...

I entered this in the Christmas Ornament category because I didn't think it would do well in the handbag category.  Apparently it didn't do well there either.

Pillow!!!!!

These are the same brownies that I brought to the Taco Lunch.  See!  I told you they were good!  (Fresh batch.  Not the same ones!!!)

One County Fair entry done, 2,999,000 more to go!

   This is a Kitty Bag, made out of, what do you know!?  A Kitty Food bag!  It seriously only took 10 minutes, really easy.  I'm going to enter it in the County Fair, under the recycled category.  Who knows?  I might even get 1st place!

Here is my wacko cat.  She had been sleeping under the bed when we grabbed her and stuffed her in this bag.  We thought it would make a cute picture, with her peeking out of the bag.  But it just made her angry.  So after three minutes of "torture," we let her out.  We tried to get Sammy inside, but he was even worse...



Chinn Bee

   Yesterday my mom and I went to a sewing class at the Chinn Library. 

I made these really cute " Little Japanese Bags" using only part of 2 fat quarters.

Tired...

  I just got back from this thing called "Arts Alive."  I spent all day teaching kids Make-and-Take projects.  One was making little felt books to hold sewing needles in, another was making little 3 by 3in. quilt squares.  (They just glued the fabric onto paper, they didn't actually make quilts.)  And the other one was making these really cool bags out of old T-Shirts.  All you have to do is take a T-shirt, and cut off the sleeves and the collar.  Then, you take the bottom of the T, and make fringe.  Then you tie the fringe together to make the bottom of the bag. 

Quilted Checkerboard

    

 This is my checkerboard that I made during the summer.  The little pouches hold the checker pieces that I made also.  The checkers are circle pieces of fabric which are gathered; commonly called a yoyo in the sewing world.  The theme of the checkerboard is ladybugs vs. bumblebees.   I was able to use my Mother's embroidery machine to make the pouches as an in-the-hoop project.  (Which means I put the fabric in different stages and the machine sews it.)  I won a Best of Show ribbon at the 2010 Prince William County Fair.  This is the first time I ever won a Best of Show ribbon.  Next, I would like to try and get the creativity ribbon at the Fair, so if you have any ideas of a creative project, (that's not too hard, ) let me know! :)

Presentation Day!

  Yesterday was presentation day, and apparently I did really well!  I got a blue ribbon!!!!  I messed up a couple of times, and forgot what the google eyes were called; but I made it out O.K.  Thankyou to everyone for encouraging me!
